What is the difference between a thrust bearing and a slide bearing?

There are the following differences between thrust bearing and skateboard bearing:

First. Structural characteristics

Thrust bearing: usually consists of thrust disk, thrust tile block, bearing housing and so on. With a special structural design to withstand axial force, can provide stable support in the axial direction.

Sliding bearings: generally consists of inner ring, outer ring, ball (or roller) and keep frame and so on. Mainly used to bear radial load, but also can withstand a certain degree of axial load, but the ability to withstand axial force is relatively weak.

Second, the functional use

Thrust bearing: mainly used to withstand axial load, such as in turbines, pumps, motors and other equipment to prevent the shaft in the axial direction to produce displacement. Ensure the stable operation of the equipment in the axial direction, to withstand a large axial force.

Slip bearings: mainly bear radial loads, such as in various mechanical transmission systems, to support the rotating shaft and reduce friction. In some applications, can also withstand a certain amount of axial load, but not its main function.

Third, the principle of operation

Thrust bearing:Relying on the oil film or other lubricating medium between the thrust disk and the thrust tile block, the bearing surface is formed, and the axial force is dispersed to a number of tiles, so as to realize the support of the axial force.

Sliding bearing: Through the rolling of balls or rollers between the inner and outer rings, the frictional resistance is reduced to realize the rotary motion of the shaft. At the same time, the cage is utilized to maintain the relative position of the balls or rollers to ensure the normal operation of the bearing.

Fourth, the application field

Thrust bearing: widely used in heavy machinery, large power equipment and other axial force requirements of high occasions. Such as ship propulsion system, large compressor, wind turbines, etc..

Sliding bearing: commonly used in a variety of general mechanical equipment, such as automobiles, machine tools, motors and so on. Suitable for general industrial production and daily equipment in the rotating parts support.
